Titus Welliver was born in 1962 in New Haven, Connecticut. He was one of five children to parents Neil Welliver, an established landscape painter, and Norma Cripps, a fashion illustrator. Welliver’s initial experience with painting was under the tutelage of his father, and he continued his artistic pursuit at Bennington College and the University of Pennsylvania. Eventually, he shifted his focus toward acting, which he studied at HB Studios in New York and later at New York University’s Tisch. This study blossomed into roles in various series and films, most notably the title role in the series Bosch. However, Welliver has not abandoned his off-screen artistry, and continues to paint from his Connecticut studio, where he creates cool and familiar natural scenes which have been exhibited across the country.
